We just released a totally free program that will allow you to set the password of your VNC server while it resides on your local network. It has the option to allow for alternate credentials, and it works for all of the major flavors of VNC (UltraVNC, TightVNC, and RealVNC).
It is a nice tool when you are working on machines that are 100s of miles away within your WAN.
Jan 23, 2015 The password is stored at this location when the vncserver starts for a first time. To update or change your VNC password you should use vncpasswd command. Vncpasswd will promt you two times to enter your new password: $ vncpasswd Password: Verify: The vncpasswd command also accepts a password input from STDIN which also allows to store. It seems that with version 1.0.9, ultravnc does not like someone to tamper with ultravnc.ini password, giving the message ' this server does have a valid password' after restarting the service. A workaround is to switch to registry mode: UseRegistry=1 in ultravnc.ini – Max Oct 22 '15 at 9:23.
No extra dlls, or .net runtimes are required.
Download it from here As always no spyware, adware – Just freeware goodness.
Requires at least Windows 2000.
